Welcome Message from the Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan

It is with great honour and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier Faculty of Arts and a hub of intellectual, cultural, and creative excellence.

As the Dean, I am proud to lead a faculty with a distinguished legacy of scholarship, innovation, and impact, both within Nigeria and across the globe. Since its establishment, the Faculty of Arts has played a pivotal role in shaping critical thought, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting the values of humanity through the humanities and creativity.

Our faculty is home to a rich array of disciplines, including languages—Arabic, English, French, German, Igbo, Russian, and Yoruba; as well as Classics, Anthropology & Archaeology, Communication, Religious Studies, History, Philosophy, Islamic Studies, and the Performing Arts—each contributing uniquely to the understanding of human society and the advancement of knowledge. We are committed to nurturing students who are not only academically excellent but also socially responsible, culturally grounded, and globally competitive.

At the Faculty of Arts, we foster a vibrant academic community where students, scholars, and researchers have the liberty to explore new ideas, challenge conventions, and engage in rigorous inquiry. Through our programmes, research initiatives, public lectures, and cultural activities, we continue to uphold the University of Ibadan’s tradition of excellence and leadership in education.

Whether you are a prospective or current student, a member of staff, an alumnus, or a visitor, I invite you to explore the diverse opportunities our Faculty offers. Together, let us continue to build a future that is enriched by critical thinking, creativity, and a deep understanding of our shared humanity.

Welcome to the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, where tradition meets innovation.
